The subject matter of Ingrid Calame’s paintings and drawing is the discarded marks others have imprinted on industrial environments. Calame’s work captures the urban essence of place by tracing the often overlooked stains and cracks of specific industrial locations onto semi-transparent film, and then by transposing, overlapping, and retracing these mappings in color. Her vibrant and complex abstractions are representative of specific places while retaining their ambiguity. The paintings function as both landscapes and historical documents recording discarded and unobserved markings.
