Bernd and Hilla Becher describe this project in their 1990 book, titled Blast Furnances: “With some large industrial structures aesthetic additional are possible to a certain extent, but with blast furnaces heat, pressure, and gas generation overrule aesthetics. The blast furnace is like a body without a skin. Its insides are visible from the outside, organs, arteries and skeleton create its form.” This photograph of a Blast furnace was taken in Mingo Junction, Ohio in 1979 and illustrates a local connection to this project of global scope.
